Two alternatives to paying for a Yacapaca subscription

If you are a light user (max 250 quizzes per month), Yacapaca is free for you. Otherwise, we expect you to make a contribution to the community in return for the value you are getting. That can come as cash to help us run the service (i.e. buy a subscription), through authoring new quizzes or promoting our Prizes! revision scheme to parents.

1. Authors go free

Every time a student uses a quiz you have written, it gets counted towards your Author Rank. You can see your Author Rank under More->My Profile. It is based on quiz runs over the last 12 months. The higher your author rank, the more free credits we add to your subscription. The top authors earn enough to keep Yacapaca free for themselves.

If you are already an author, the easiest way to boost your author rank is to improve the quality of your existing quizzes and courses, so that more teachers choose to assign them. Here are several useful articles on improving your authoring.

2. Champion the Prizes! revision scheme

The Prizes! revision scheme gives students self-managed access to our unique individualised learning system that will boost their grades at GCSE. Prizes! uses Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) to select questions from our bank of 130,000+ that match each student's current attainment level. It sequences them with an Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve revision schedule to ensure that material once learned is not forgotten. As far as we know, it is the only system in the world that does this. Oh, it also incentivises study with real-world prizes like iPods and games vouchers.

We ask parents to pay £4.99/week for their child to use Prizes! with no minimum set period, so it's not exactly expensive. Generally speaking, parents will use it if a teacher champions it. If you think it would be useful for your students, you should make sure that you ask parents to sign up using your tracking link (copy that from here). For every new student who is signed up (even if it's only for one week) we will add 25 quizzes to your monthly allowance for the next year. So just 20 parents signing up through you will save you the £99 you would otherwise have spent on a subscription. This way, parents supporting their own child are indirectly supporting every child in the school. Find out more about Prizes! here.
