EDI stands for Electronic Data Interchange.

EDI is a set of standards that enable linked computers to conduct business transactions (ordering, invoicing etc) and exchange business data over a secure telecommunications network.

The two main standards are ANSI X12 and the international standard, EDIFACT.

EDI messages can be encrypted.
