People with many disabilities often find combinations of various different ICT solutions useful in helping them to control their surroundings and communicate, thereby improving their quality of life.

Examples are:

  • switches
  • pointers
  • communication boards, which are similar to keyboards but have pictures, words or symbols which the user can point to

One sophisticated method of communication works using LED's to establish where a user is looking on a screen, their gazepoint.

Some special schools use a mixture of media, visual devices and the performing arts, involving a number of different ICT applications, to teach students with multiple disabilities.
