The Future of the Internet
The Internet is a victim of its own success in that it must continue to develop at the same speed as the computer industry in order to remain relevant. Here are some examples of developments:
- real time communication (including audio and video),
- portable equipment development enabling wireless communication and Internet telephone.
- more sophisticated pricing
- Internet television
- Broadband access
- satellite communication
As new forms of access and service are developed, new applications will spring up and these will drive further development of the Internet.
Possibly the most serious concern around Internet development is not how the technology will change but rather how the change will be managed as interested parties evolve from a collaborative small group of designers to stakeholders with significant financial as well as intellectual investment in its success.
